Your direct TVET entry point
What can you study with a C− in Kenya?
A KCSE mean grade of C− qualifies you for direct entry into many Diploma or Level 6 programmes. Options include ICT, engineering, construction, automotive technology, welding, agriculture, supply chain, accountancy, hospitality, fashion design and community development. The exact course may still require a particular subject grade.
C− opens the diploma door. It does not decide which diploma will suit you.
Start with the work you can see yourself doing. Then compare the subject requirements, training facilities, practical hours, complete cost and attachment arrangement.
Your starting point
What does a C− qualify you for?
KUCCPS uses C and C− as the general entry band for Diploma or Level 6 TVET programmes. Degree entry generally begins at C+, while Level 5 certificates accept D+ and D and Level 4 artisan courses accept D− and E.
You meet the general direct-entry point for many Level 6 programmes.
Engineering, health and regulated programmes may ask for specific subjects.
You may still choose a certificate or focused professional course when it fits better.
General entry guidance: KUCCPS placement requirements. Meeting the general grade does not replace the exact programme conditions.

Choose by the work
Which diploma fits your strengths and interests?
Your mean grade opens the door. Your subjects, interests and preferred working environment help decide which door is worth entering.
Maths & science
Compare engineering, building, automotive, mechanical and technical courses.
Computers
Look at ICT, networking, support, databases and software-related pathways.
Business
Consider supply chain, accountancy, HR, records, sales and management.
Visible results
Automotive, welding, construction and electrical work reward practical ability.
Creative or people work
Compare culinary arts, fashion, hospitality, social work and community development.
A workshop name is not proof of practical training
Two colleges can advertise the same automotive, ICT or fashion diploma and give students very different practical exposure. Inspect the facilities and ask to see recent student work.
Courses with separate rules
Does C− qualify you for medical or teaching diplomas?
Do not apply the general Level 6 rule blindly to regulated programmes. Health and teacher-training courses use their own mean grades and subject combinations.
KMTC diploma entry
KMTC gives C as its general diploma-entry grade, together with the required subject combination. A C− does not automatically qualify someone for nursing, clinical medicine or medical laboratory training.
Teacher-training entry
KUCCPS lists C for Diploma in Primary Teacher Education and C+ for Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education. Confirm the current programme before applying.
Check the current KMTC academic programme requirements and the exact KUCCPS listing. An unofficial course list is not an admission decision.
Your 2026 budget
How much does a diploma course cost in Kenya?
Public and private colleges do not use one universal quotation. Compare the complete amount—not a fee presented without its payment period.
The annual figure follows the March 2026 public-TVET fee announcement. Check current TVET loans, scholarships and bursaries through HELB.
Time and qualification
How long does a Level 6 diploma take?
Commonly two to three years
The actual period depends on the course, modules, assessment schedule and industrial attachment. Ask the college to show the complete structure.
C− does not force a diploma
A certificate or focused professional course can still be sensible when it fits your time, budget or intended skill better. Confirm the exact qualification awarded.

Before you pay
Eight checks that protect your time and money
A recognised course, real practical exposure and a complete written fee structure matter more than a colourful brochure.
- Check the institution’s registration and the programme’s approval.
- Confirm both the mean grade and required subjects.
- Inspect the workshop, laboratory, kitchen, farm or studio.
- Identify the assessment body and qualification awarded.
- Request the full fee structure in writing.
- Ask where recent students completed attachment.
- Look for projects or practical work produced by students.
- Confirm progression into a related higher qualification.
Admission preparation
Documents commonly required
A college may ask for your KCSE result slip or certificate, National ID or birth certificate, passport photographs, admission letter and KUCCPS placement letter where applicable.
Some programmes also require medical documents, proof of age or professional and licensing records. Use the final list issued by the admitting institution.
