1. Information and Communication Technology
ICT can begin with everyday computer use and grow into technical support, networking, design, software or data work. The right starting point depends on how comfortable you already are with a computer.
A useful ICT course involves doing, not watching. Ask to see recent student projects and the software used in class. If the answer is limited to notes and examinations, keep looking.
ICT training at Newton Institute of Technology
NIT offers a two-month Computer Packages course for beginners. It covers documents, spreadsheets, presentations, email and organised file handling.
Build confidence with the everyday computer skills used in offices and small businesses.
Eight months of institutional training followed by a compulsory three-month attachment.

2. Electrical Installation
Electrical Installation Level 5 suits learners interested in wiring, testing, maintenance and fault finding. Visit the workshop and ask whether each learner measures, connects, tests and corrects faults under supervision.
Training can lead towards work with contractors, building-maintenance teams or an installation business, subject to relevant licensing and workplace rules.
3. Plumbing
Plumbing students learn to measure, cut, join, fit and test water and drainage systems used in homes, institutions, commercial buildings and construction projects.
A connection holds or it leaks. Ask how much individual tool time is included and whether students complete full installations rather than isolated demonstrations.
4. Welding and Fabrication
Welding and Fabrication can lead into construction, vehicle-body repair, agricultural equipment, gates, doors, grills, tanks and metal furniture.
Training should cover measurement, drawings, material preparation, joining, finishing and workshop safety. Costing matters too: good work can still lose money when materials, power and labour are priced badly.
5. Automotive and Motorcycle Technology
Automotive training may cover servicing, mechanical repair, vehicle electrical systems, diagnostics or motorcycle maintenance.

NIT offers three separate Grade III certificate courses:
Hair care, styling and salon services.
Personal-care treatments, hygiene and client service.
A broader combination of hair and beauty skills.
Each programme takes one year: two terms of institutional training followed by attachment. Entry is open, so a learner with D Plain can join, as can an applicant with a KCPE certificate or a lower KCSE grade.

8. Food Production, Baking and Hospitality
D Plain learners can investigate food production, baking, pastry, food and beverage service, housekeeping and front-office programmes, depending on the institution.

9. Fashion Design and Dressmaking
Fashion and garment training covers measurement, pattern work, cutting, construction, alterations and finishing. Completed garments are better evidence than a long list of topics.
Before joining, look at recent student work and check whether enough sewing machines are available during practical sessions.
10. Agriculture and Agribusiness
